The UAE’s aid to the people of Socotra Island, heading increasingly oriented towards sustainable development, after the state has helped people to overcome the difficult stages through food and urgent medical aid to them in times of crisis and natural disasters.
And this aid expanded to cover vital sectors that have been living in a state of weakness and fragility of what causes the daily difficulties of the people, like the health sector, which began to witness a marked improvement due to the UAE’s efforts, which reflected in the qualitative addition recently witnessed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital, in the island.
The Governor of Socotra Ramzi Mahrous and Khalafan Al Mazrouei, representative of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation and Sultan Al Hamiri, head of the UAE delegation, inaugurated the Emergency and Operations Department at the hospital.
The Governor commended the development and humanitarian role played by the UAE on the island represented by the Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Affairs and the UAE Red Crescent Authority.
The UAE project included the development and improvement of hospital performance, expanded to serve more than two hundred patients per day, doubling its capacity to absorb residents of patients doubled the number of its beds, and the establishment of a unit for dialysis, and the headquarters for the accommodation of doctors in the significant increase in medical staff to 151 people.
The project also included raising the number of beneficiaries of medical vaccination programs and raising the number of laboratory tests performed by the hospital. The UAE is also opening a health center in each of the villages in the archipelago, to bring medical services closer to the people, in parallel with the rehabilitation and maintenance of twenty previously existing centers and lack of suitable equipment.
The governor Ramzi Mahrous recently announced at the end of his visit to the UAE, that attention will be focused during the coming period on the development process in Socotra.
Over the past period, the two UAE institutions, Khalifa bin Zayed Humanitarian and UAE Red Crescent, a major role in helping the people of Socotra, where diverse Emirati aid that poured into the archipelago without interruption, helped bring about a marked improvement in the living population and revitalize its economic conditions.
