A recent British report on armaments, Iran’s involvement in supplying Huthi militias in Yemen with mines, as well as the training of a number of rebels on a large-scale local minefield.
International expert Gona Lev, director of operations at the British Arms Research Institute, said Tehran was directly involved in supplying Houthi militias with Iranian-made mines that were not in the possession of the Yemeni army before the Huthis’ coup against legitimacy in the country.
In a report entitled “Mines and Explosives Used by Houthi Militants in the West Coast,” Lev stressed the importance of developing plans and maps for the demining of these mines.
He presented his report during a seminar held at the UN headquarters in New York entitled “Civilians in the conflict of Yemen from the perspective of international humanitarian law”.
The report provides an overview of landmines, sea and improvised explosive devices used by Huthi militias on the western coast of Yemen.
In the latest field survey of Yemen in July, the report documented all electronic fragments of remotely controlled IEDs, including sensors and transmissions used by the Huthi militia on the western coast.
The report confirms that its design and installation are fully consistent with the material previously documented by the Foundation in the country of origin, “Iran”, and was manufactured in 2008.
The report also mentions that the types of mines used by the coup militias were documented on the West Coast, and the same quality was seized with the ISIS in Aden
